High melting point and low thermal conductivity
Tantalum has a melting point of up to 3017°C, and tantalum tubes need to be processed at high temperatures, but low thermal conductivity can easily lead to local overheating, causing cracks or deformation.
Strong oxidizability
Tantalum easily reacts with elements such as oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon at high temperatures to form brittle oxides (such as Ta₂O₅), which reduces material properties.
Work hardening
Tantalum tubes are easy to harden during cold processing and require multiple annealing treatments, otherwise they may crack.
