Molybdenum rods are mainly used in the steel industry. Most of them are directly used for steelmaking or cast iron after being pressed into industrial molybdenum oxide blocks. A small part is melted into molybdenum iron and molybdenum foil, and then used for steelmaking. The molybdenum content in low-alloy steel is not more than 1%, but the consumption in this area accounts for about 50% of the total molybdenum consumption.

Adding molybdenum rods to stainless steel can greatly improve the corrosion resistance of steel. Adding molybdenum to cast iron can improve the strength and wear resistance of iron. Nickel-based superalloys containing 18% molybdenum have the advantages of high melting point, low density and small thermal expansion coefficient, so it is used in various high-temperature parts such as aviation and aerospace.

Molybdenum rods are used for high-temperature circuits, electric spark machining and wire cutting. Molybdenum sheets are used to manufacture wireless point equipment and X-ray equipment. Molybdenum is resistant to high temperatures.
