Avoid precipitation burning: Nickel crucibles cannot be used for precipitation burning.
Pretreatment: New nickel crucibles should be burned in a muffle furnace to a blue-purple color to remove surface oil stains, then boiled with 1:20 HCl for a while, and then rinsed with water.
Avoid metal salt melting: Molten metal salts such as Al, Zn, Pb, Sn, Hg can make nickel crucibles brittle, and borax cannot be melted in nickel crucibles.
Note on trace chromium: Nickel crucibles often contain trace chromium, so be careful when using them.
