Physical properties:
The appearance of nickel plate is silvery white, with good luster, density of 8.9 g/cm³, melting point of about 1455℃, boiling point of 2730℃.
It is hard, ferromagnetic and has good plasticity, medium hardness, and can be highly polished.
Chemical properties:
The valence of nickel is 2 and 3, and the ionization energy is 7.635 electron volts. It is not oxidized in the air, resistant to strong alkali and fatty acid corrosion.
It can be slowly dissolved in dilute acid, releasing hydrogen to produce green positive divalent nickel ions Ni²⁺; it does not react to oxidant solutions including nitric acid.
Nickel plate can withstand erosion by a variety of corrosive media, including acidic and alkaline solutions, such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid, etc.
Under high temperature and oxidizing atmosphere, a dense nickel oxide protective film will form on the surface of the nickel plate, preventing oxygen from further reacting with the internal nickel and enhancing its antioxidant properties.
