The production methods of electrolytic cobalt mainly include electrolytic deposition and electrolytic refining:
Electrolytic deposition method: Metallic cobalt is directly produced from a cobalt-containing aqueous solution. During the electrolytic deposition process, cobalt ions are reduced to metal precipitation at the cathode, and a reaction to generate chlorine and oxygen occurs at the anode. Commonly used electrolytes include cobalt chloride solution and cobalt sulfate solution. Cobalt chloride solution has the advantage of basically not changing the pH of the electrolyte. Electrolytic refining method: Pure cobalt is extracted from crude cobalt. During the electrolytic refining process, the cobalt on the anode is continuously oxidized and dissolved into the electrolyte, while the cobalt in the electrolyte is reduced to metal at the cathode. Through electrolytic refining, most impurities can be removed to obtain purified cobalt.
