Is zinc as strong as steel?
No, zinc is significantly weaker than steel.
Zinc/Zinc Alloys: Typical tensile strength ranges from 250 MPa for cast zinc alloys up to approximately 350-800 MPa (~350-800 N/mm²) for certain galvanized or alloyed steel wires. Zinc alloys generally have a Brinell hardness in the range of 80-120 HB .
Steel: Ordinary carbon steel has a tensile strength starting around 300 MPa, while high-strength galvanized steel wire (like that used for armored cables or springs) can reach 900-2200 MPa. Steel's modulus of elasticity (~200 GPa) is roughly twice that of zinc alloys (~100-110 GPa), meaning steel is much stiffer and stronger .
