Density and tensile strength of Zhenan zirconium rods
1. Raw material preparation
The first step in zirconium rod production is to select the right raw materials. High-purity sponge zirconium is usually used as the starting material because it has low impurity content and is easy to process.
2. Melting
The selected sponge zirconium and other necessary alloying elements are placed in a vacuum arc furnace or plasma melting furnace for melting.
3. Casting
The molten zirconium liquid is poured into a mold of a specific shape for cooling and solidification to form a rough ingot.
4. Heat treatment
The ingot needs to undergo a series of heat treatment processes, such as annealing and normalizing, to improve its microstructure and mechanical properties.
5. Forging and rolling
The heat-treated ingot is sent to the forging equipment or rolling mill for plastic deformation processing, and gradually formed into the required rod size and shape.
6. Cold working
For some applications, further cold working (such as cold drawing and cold rolling) may be required to improve the dimensional accuracy and surface finish of the product.
7. Finishing and Inspection
Zirconium rods need to go through a series of finishing processes, such as cutting, grinding, polishing, etc., to reach the final product specifications.
