Corrosion resistance: Tantalum is inert to hydrochloric acid, concentrated nitric acid, aqua regia and "king of inorganic acids" (mixture of hydrofluoric acid and concentrated nitric acid) below 150°C, and only reacts with hydrofluoric acid, concentrated sulfuric acid, and solvents containing oxygen ions.
Surface oxide film: A dense tantalum pentoxide (Ta₂O₅) protective film is formed in the air to prevent further oxidation and ensure long-term stability.
