1. According to the production process
Nickel foil can be divided into two types according to the production process: electrolytic nickel foil and rolled nickel foil. Electrolytic nickel foil is deposited from nickel salt solution by electrochemical method, with uniform surface and excellent forming performance, and is usually used to manufacture electronic components, insulating materials, etc. Rolled nickel foil is processed from nickel billet by mechanical rolling method, with higher strength and hardness, and is usually used to manufacture conductive materials, thermal conductive materials, etc.

2. According to surface treatment
Nickel foil can be divided into two types according to different surface treatment methods: bright nickel foil and electroplated nickel foil. Bright nickel foil usually undergoes polishing, chemical treatment and other processes, and has good surface finish and gloss, which is suitable for the manufacture of products requiring high surface quality. Electroplated nickel foil is a thin layer of nickel metal electroplated on the surface of the substrate, which has excellent corrosion resistance and conductivity, and is often used to manufacture conductive materials, chemical equipment, etc.

3. According to the use
According to the specific use and characteristic requirements of nickel foil, it can also be classified more subdivided. For example, nickel foil used for lithium battery separators needs to have excellent mechanical strength and electrical conductivity; nickel foil used for magnetic materials needs to have high magnetic conductivity and magnetic permeability; nickel foil used for thermal conductive materials needs to have good thermal conductivity and corrosion resistance, etc.
