Pure tungsten electrodes have superior properties: low vapor pressure, low resistance, good conductivity, low thermal expansion, and high elastic modulus.
The most widely used use of pure tungsten electrodes is in AC welding under AC. It is generally used to weld aluminum and magnesium alloys (AC) under AC.
Pure tungsten electrodes can also provide clean, sharp weld balls when heated. This shape provides a balanced waveform AC welding arc stability, which is particularly good.
Pure tungsten electrodes also provide good arc stability for sine wave AC welding of aluminum and magnesium. However, they are not used for DC welding. Pure tungsten electrodes are widely used in various industries for specific welding applications.
